Science
At Danesholme Academies, our science curriculum is designed so that every child will 'Be Ready':
Ready to Learn — We deliver a stimulating, concept-driven science curriculum that sparks curiosity and builds secure foundations in scientific knowledge. Children are encouraged to ask questions, investigate, and develop a deep understanding of key ideas that underpin the natural world.
Ready for Life — Science learning equips children with critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills that extend beyond the classroom. They learn to apply evidence-based reasoning and adaptability, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing world.
Ready to Contribute — Through collaborative experiments and discussions, children learn to share ideas, respect diverse perspectives, and work as part of a scientific community. They understand the impact of science on society and their role in contributing to sustainable solutions.
Ready to Succeed — With high expectations and progressive development of scientific concepts, every child is empowered to master investigative skills, apply knowledge confidently, and be ready for the next stage of their education and future careers in STEM.
Implementation
At Danesholme Infant Academy, we follow the Primary Knowledge Curriculum to develop curious, knowledgeable and enthusiastic young scientists. Through the study of biology, chemistry, physics and Earth science, pupils build a strong foundation of scientific knowledge while learning to explore, question and investigate the world around them.
Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures that knowledge is regularly revisited and built upon, helping pupils develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts and vocabulary over time. Through practical investigations and scientific enquiry, children learn to think critically, gather and interpret evidence, and communicate their ideas confidently. We also celebrate the contributions of significant scientists throughout history, inspiring pupils to see the impact science has on our lives and future.
Science at Danesholme Infant Academy is closely linked to our KRR values, encouraging pupils to be kind, resilient and respectful in their learning and when working collaboratively with others. Children are challenged to persevere when investigations do not go as planned, show respect for different ideas and viewpoints, and work together to solve problems and answer scientific questions.
We also make meaningful connections to our local area, helping pupils understand how science influences their everyday lives and the world around them. By exploring local habitats, environmental issues and the natural and built environments of Corby and Northamptonshire, pupils develop an appreciation of their community while understanding the important role science plays in shaping the future. Through these experiences, children learn that science is not only a subject to study, but a tool for understanding and improving the world in which they live.
