Be Kind

Be Ready

Be Respectful

Geography

At Danesholme Academies, our geography curriculum is designed so that every child will 'Be Ready':

Ready to Learn — We provide a rich, concept-driven geography curriculum that inspires curiosity about the world. Children develop secure foundations in locational knowledge, physical and human processes, and learn to interpret maps, data, and environments with confidence.

Ready for Life — Geography equips children with the ability to think critically about global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and resource management. They learn to make informed decisions and understand the interconnectedness of people, places, and environments.

Ready to Contribute — Through collaborative enquiry and fieldwork, children learn to respect diverse cultures, appreciate different perspectives, and contribute positively to discussions about local and global challenges. They understand their role in shaping a sustainable future.

Ready to Succeed — With high expectations and progressive development of geographical concepts and skills, every child is empowered to analyse, evaluate, and communicate geographical ideas effectively, preparing them for the next stage of education and beyond.

Implementation

At Danesholme Infant Academy, we follow the Primary Knowledge Curriculum to develop curious, knowledgeable and responsible geographers. Through a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum, pupils build a deep understanding of places, people and environments at a local, national and global level. Children learn about the UK, Europe and the wider world while developing essential geographical skills such as map reading, fieldwork, data interpretation and enquiry.

Our geography curriculum helps pupils understand how physical and human processes shape the world around them and encourages them to ask questions about the places they study. Learning is regularly linked to our local area, enabling children to explore the geography of Corby and Northamptonshire through meaningful fieldwork and real-life contexts. This helps pupils develop a strong sense of place and an appreciation of their community.

Geography also supports our Danesholme KRR values. Children demonstrate Kindness by understanding and respecting different communities, cultures and environments; Readiness by tackling challenging geographical concepts and investigations; and Respect by developing an understanding of diverse people, places and perspectives across the world.

By the end of their time at Danesholme Infant Academy, pupils will have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence to understand an increasingly connected world and recognise their role as responsible local and global citizens.
