Nursery (FS1)
Curriculum Intent
At Danesholme Academies, our curriculum is designed so that every child will 'Be Ready':
Ready to Learn — We provide a warm, play-based environment where curiosity is encouraged through exploration and sensory experiences. Our language-rich approach helps children develop early communication skills and build strong foundations for future learning across all areas of development.
Ready for Life — In Nursery, learning is about more than early academics: we nurture confidence, independence, and resilience. Children learn to manage feelings, take turns, and adapt to new routines, preparing them for the next stage of their journey.
Ready to Contribute — We create a caring community where every child feels valued. Through play and shared activities, children learn to cooperate, share, and respect others, building positive relationships within their classroom and beyond.
Ready to Succeed — Through high-quality interactions, gentle guidance, and progressive experiences, every child develops essential communication, physical, and social skills—ready for a smooth transition into Reception and a lifelong love of learning.
At Danesholme, we are ambitious for every child in our Early Years setting. We believe that all children, regardless of their starting points, deserve the very best foundation for lifelong learning.
We aim for every child to:
- Develop a love of learning through a rich, engaging, and purposeful environment
- Become confident, independent learners who are curious about the world around them
- Build strong communication and language skills to express themselves effectively
- Develop positive relationships, resilience, and a sense of belonging within our school community
- Achieve their full potential across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage
We are committed to:
- Early identification and support for all pupils, ensuring barriers to learning are addressed swiftly
- High expectations for all learners, with no limits placed on achievement
- Strong partnerships with families to support children’s development both at school and at home
- Providing a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and ready to learn
By the end of Early Years, we strive for all children to be well-prepared for the next stage of their education, with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed in Key Stage 1 and beyond.
